We may not realize it at first, but we are all on a spiritual journey.
Faith means many things to many people. To me, faith means believing in something greater than myself that can be there for me 24/7.
According to opinion polls, the vast majority of Americans still believe in God or a higher power. But there are strong signs that many are less certain about this belief than in years past. Many were raised in a religious family, suffered from trauma and abuse as a child or adult, and decided there was no God—just like I did.
In my experience, people who were raised in a family with no spiritual connections or who went astray as I did from the spiritual beliefs of their childhood are more likely to be plagued with emotional and physical symptoms later on. And there are those who lose faith when something bad happens to them or to a loved one, and they become angry with God.
Many studies have shown that those with faith in God or a higher power will use it to help overcome the hardships of emotional and physical illness and to improve their quality of life and well-being. They are more likely to triumph over heartbreaking separation, loss, grief, pain, chronic disease, anxiety, depression, etc.
My life story has been compiled into a book called True Healing Through Faith, and there are plans to make it into a feature film. But when I finished the manuscript, I felt that something was missing. Yes, it’s an inspiring story, but how could I be more helpful to those who find themselves in the same situation that I experienced?
The answer came as an inspiration to write the book Heal Your Life—to help those whose faith is lacking, to help rekindle it, so they can use that power to live a healthier and more peaceful life.
In Heal Your Life, you will find twenty-five ways that many of my patients and I learned to help solidify and call on our faith, especially during hard times.
You can read through each one, or answer the “Your Faith Inventory” questions, also in the book, and go directly to those you feel inspired to work on. At the end of each short chapter are questions to answer about the subject and a place to create steps to harness the power of faith for yourself.
Do these steps at your own pace, and don’t worry if you only make a little progress at a time. Finding or regaining your faith in a higher power does not usually come about overnight. It can start gradually, and then, all of a sudden you realize, as I did, that it’s there, and that it works…
