Did You Know? Fat Intake is NOT
Implicated in Breast Cancer
It has been suggested that a
high dietary intake of fat and certain fatty acids is a factor in the development of
breast cancer.
According to a study published in JAMA
in which 2956 women with breast cancer were evaluated as part of an ongoing Nurses' Health
Study initiated in 1976, fat intake was ascertained using questionnaires from 1980, 1984,
1986 and 1990.
After reviewing the data, it was
concluded that there was no evidence that reduced total fat or major types of fat
decreased the risk of breast cancer.
The fact is that women should still be
concerned with their fat intake. A high-fat diet has been proven to increase the risk of
heart disease.
