The Health Through Communications Foundation was founded in 1993 by me, Dr. Carolle Jean-Murat, a Haitian ob-gyn practicing in San Diego, California. The HTCF supports community efforts to provide personal development, educational and economic opportunities as well as healthcare access to women and children in the village of La Vallee de Jacmel, Haiti. We believe that everyone deserves an opportunity to achieve and enjoy a happy, healthy and productive life.
We understand that the physical, mental, spiritual and financial well-being of individuals directly impacts their ability to recognize and maximize opportunities available to them, and to succeed in their lives. The HTCF has created special programs to teach children skills: they in turn will then influence those around them.
The goal of the Health Through Communications Foundation is to offer culturally sensitive art programs for children to prepare them for a creative and cooperative future with a high self-esteem, and a capacity for peace building by drawing upon their innate creativity and imagination.
We believe that a child’s natural or even learned cognitive processes can influence development for the better, both in the short and long term. We also believe that positive experiences early on shape a young child’s personality in ways that remain stable throughout much of their life.
Studies have shown that a child’s psychological growth and school performance can be enhanced by a focus on their artistic talent. Through the emphasis of imagination and creativity, future learning can be positively effected.
The impact of this is wide reaching and provides personal and collective growth of each individual and the society it touches as a whole.
Our programs in the village of La Vallee de Jacmel, Haiti, are designed to reduce:
